A note on the hardware requirements for the Unreal Engine 5 demo Posted: 30 May 2021 09:23 AM PDT Many people were panicking over the 64 GB RAM, 12 core CPU, and high SSD bandwidth requirements of the demo released this week. As some already knew, those specs were for running the demo in the editor. So I decided to package the game and test performance. At max settings and 1440p the demo never used more than 11 GB of RAM. It hit its peak in drone mode as you fly over the landscape. Otherwise, during normal gameplay, RAM was between 8-9 GB. NVMe SSD read speeds never hit over 600 MB/s (they were usually much lower than that), and the IO-heavy world transition only took a couple of seconds. This transition should be even faster when we get DirectStorage - it should load instantly. CPU usage was usually between 10-20%. Performance on a 2080 Ti was around 50-60fps. File size when packaged is around 25 GB. [link] [comments] |

Why we're running out of computers? by Polymatter Posted: 30 May 2021 02:52 PM PDT That's the first explanation ever, that I found, that goes deeper than just cryptos and pandemic. It's nothing that we can change immediately, but personally I feel better when I can understand even a bit of what the hell is happening rn. [link] [comments] |
