Can't use my newly built pc with 5800x cpu, need advice Posted: 23 Feb 2021 06:27 AM PST I bought the parts and assembled my pc with an x570 motherboard, 5800x cpu, 16gb of ram. I failed to realise how difficult it would be to find a 3080/3070 gpu and have been stuck with an unusable pc for a few months. But it seems really expensive for the card it is and same with the 1050ti deals for $300+... Does anyone know what I should be paying for a card like that (I don't want to support scalpers for the high priced 3xxxs cards) or know of any available deals for a card that will do for now? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 09:02 AM PST Hey everyone, I managed to buy a 3070 at MSRP a couple of months ago. Now due to the stock issues someone is offering me 1700$ for my 3070. Should I sell it? And If I sell it what can I even buy. Looks like I cannot buy anything so I plan on getting a used GTX 960 or something for cheap. Then I am going to use it until GPU Stocks come back and finally buy a 6900 XT with the money I got from selling the 3070. But I am afraid that GPU Stocks will never come back and even if it does after a year or so. What do you guys think? Should I sell my card? [link] [comments]

I’m trying to learn! But it’s really overwhelming... Posted: 23 Feb 2021 01:25 PM PST I've been doing a lot of research on PCs & parts and I'm just trying to find a happy medium between not overdoing it & spending more than I need to but also getting the most out of my money. Lucky for me I decided I wanted to switch from Mac to PC at the worst possible time to buy parts... I know I'll want to be able to upgrade my computer in the future for more demanding games, but all I need my pc to do well right now is stream Minecraft, maybe with some light to medium mods, nothing too crazy. I'm trying to stay as much under 1000 as I can but I'm willing to go a little over for the right parts. I'm aiming for an all white & RGB aesthetic, spending a decent amount of money on the more permanent/ hard to change parts and spend less for the easily upgradable parts. I would really really appreciate a parts since I would love to build my own, but right now some custom prebuilts are looking like a much better deal. I don't know how good my graphics card or GPU needs to be to not be a waste of money either way. Sorry if this is was too long but I really appreciate any help and advice! I don't have many friends into PCs and gaming to ask. [link] [comments]

Can I use two different dual-channel ram kits in quad-channel? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:12 AM PST Hello, I just got my new PC (AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070 and ASUS TUF B550-PLUS GAMING motherboard) and it has G.Skill Ripjaws V 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16. And I also have these unused ram sticks: Patriot Viper Blackout 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL18. [link] [comments]
I believe I have a defective PSU Posted: 23 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST I believe I have a defective PSU I recently bought an HP Omen 30L and it's perfect except it randomly loses power no matter what I'm doing. I've checked the ram, anything software related, and even changed outlets. It still does it. So what would be a good replacement for the PSU? Can I get away with lower? i3-10100 Posted: 23 Feb 2021 12:52 PM PST Hi, I'm building a pc just for web browsing, watching 4k videos, dolphin gaming with a i3-10100. Also, I will have 2 dedicated virtual machines 5 gb of ram each for learning, spidering and any other stuff I want running 24/7 on the host. Can I get away with a i3-10100 and 32 gb of ram or do I need to upgrade for more cores? *re-post [link] [comments]
Can anyone give me a clear difference between a prebuilt and building your own pc? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:21 AM PST The only difference I have heard is that you can customize your own better and cost differences but I still don't know the difference. I want to get into PC gaming but I don't really know where to start. I have also heard some parts are impossible to get rn aswell. [link] [comments]
Should I sell my RX 5700 (for Ray Tracing support) or keep it? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 05:29 AM PST Prices are going higher and higher and I've noticed that RX 5700 (non-XT) models are also sold for more than 650€. That's insane since I paid 429€ for my Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 in August 2019. Should I sell my GPU and get something cheap like RX 570 4GB for a temporary GPU? After that I could wait for the prices to get lower and later upgrade to a RTX 3060 (Ti). However, that could take a very long time. Or should I just keep my current GPU? I'm actually happy with the performance of my RX 5700 since I play on a 24" 1080p 165Hz IPS Freesync monitor. It can run everything I play and I think it can handle upcoming "next gen" games too. After several driver improvements it seems to be equivalent to RTX 2070. However, I would really like to have Ray Tracing support since more and more games have it and it looks gorgeous. On the other hand, I've read that DLSS looks bad at 1080p and there's no way that 3060 could run Ray Tracing without it. So is Ray Tracing worth it? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 06:42 AM PST My pc's ram is rated at 1600mhz but Its currently running at 800mhx. I know a lot of you will say i need to enable xmp but theres no option in the bios. Its a dell optiplex 3020 motherboard and it says on their website it can support 1600mhz. What should I do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:12 AM PST so i just got a new motherboard and applied thermal paste on cpu. my pc smells like some chemical, not necessarily burning smell but a weird smell that is pretty prominent. any suggestions on what i should do? How do I connect 10-pin HD audio to an Asus Z10PA-U8 motherboard? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 01:47 PM PST My Phanteks Eclipse P400a case has auxiliary audio input and output and the cable that comes from the front panel is a 10-pin "HD Audio" cable. I have read the motherboard manual but I can't find where to connect the cable to the motherboard. In fact, it looks like there's no audio pins at all, despite not having any on-board audio ports. But I'm probably dumb and just missed it. This is my first real PC build, and any help would be appreciated! Thank you all! [link] [comments]

Question about upgrading my RAM Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:37 AM PST I have a single DDR4 8gb ram stick but I want to upgrade my ram because I find myself running out of ram very often. I want to get at least 16gb so I'm thinking of buying 16gb dual channeled ram. My question is: Would I be able to add those 2 ram sticks while also continuing to use my 8gb I already have? They will be from different manufacturers most likely at different speeds. [link] [comments]
Not enough screws for my motherboard Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:01 AM PST I upgraded my motherboard to a z490 but I dont have enough screws for it. I only have 6 and i think it requires 9. I don't have my other screws because some guy built my pc 4 yrs ago and I don't have the screws anymore. Is it ok if i only have 6 screws? Thanks in advance! weakest cheapest gpu with win10 drivers to display on a 2k monitor (samsung chg90) Posted: 23 Feb 2021 01:12 PM PST Hi! I play computer games on and off. I haven't played in 6 months... I'll get re-obsessed when baldur's gate III is finished, though! Prices are too crazy now to ignore. I'm going to be selling off my radeon vii I'm barely using. When bg3 is done, hopefully by that time I can get a 3080, good grief. But, my desktop needs to remain useable. I have an amd 3950x coupled with a motherboard, BOTH of which lack integrated onboard graphics of any kind. so I don't need a radeon vii, but I need SOMETHING just to display my desktop! I haven't sold the radeon vii yet, but I need to make sure I can, hahaha. I already have the radeon drivers installed so a radeon gpu should be a painless swap. I tried a positively ancient quadro I dug up, which ostensibly has drivers, but no go. what can you recommend? [link] [comments]
Found an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for $80. Is this a good price and is it probably a scam? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 05:37 AM PST Here's the description of the part post verbatim. "Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. I upgraded to a Ryzen 9 laptop and am piecing out my desktop. All original packaging is included, along with the OEM cooler, never used, in the box." Thanks. If motherboards won’t support the next CPU generations, is it a bad time to upgrade now? Posted: 22 Feb 2021 11:05 PM PST I've been planning on an upgrade to my PC for the past two weeks, but in the end I started thinking that my current hardware is already surviving (Ryzen 7 2700X and GTX 1080) so if I upgrade my motherboard and CPU now, I'll simply limit myself from the next generation instead of future proofing because neither Z490 nor X570 will support next gens afaik. Does that meam this would be the worst time to upgrade? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:22 AM PST I just got a noctua 60 mm fan to replace the young lin fan I had in my hardrive cage. However the connector that the young lin fan uses is slightly smaller 3 pin connector. Does anyone know of an adapter for this? [link] [comments]
Stress test - CPU overheat diagnosis, remedy support Posted: 23 Feb 2021 12:53 PM PST Recently have been experiencing system shut down while gaming. All stock, no OC. First started happening while playing world of tanks - not the most graphically intense game. Then was able to replicate the problem after a few hours of playing cyberpunk 2077. I got pretty confused by all the monitoring software (MSI Afterburner, HWInfo, CPUID, Speedfan, etc) that googling and redditing recommended but I do have them running now and, hopefully, have the right settings enabled to create a readable event log. but need some help on that. I am currently running Prime95 to stress test the CPU...also somewhat confusing. i just clicked through most of the options when i started it, didn't change anything...regardless, currently seeing via CPUID System specs: InWin A1+ Mini ITX Case EVGA 750W gold supernova PS (I removed the PS that came with case to accommodate GPU) MSI Meg Z490i Unify Intel i5 10600k, with paste was applied evenly and thoroughly. GSkill DDR4 TridentZ Neo 16 GB RAM CoolerMaster G200P heatsink cpu fan (low profile. this case is tight!) ASUS TUF 3080 RTX The case came with two fans pre-installed: one on the back, one on the side. I never messed with them and they work fine. I added two more fans to the bottom of the case, set to exhaust air. Questions & help/recommendations: - Any other stress test or logging recommendations that I should I run to get an accurate picture of what is happening? After the last shut down - during which one can hear the fan(s) and/or CPU cooler are working at max capacity - I haven't tried to fire up a game again because I wanted to understand how to set up one of the above monitoring programs to create a log file. Not sure where to find them or read them, if they're being made. - Before I go and immediately replace the cpu heatsink with something else, should I flip the bottom fans to bring more intake, less exhaust? - Prime 95 has been running for about an hour and the system hasn't shut down. I suspect that is because the GPU is not being worked out. Thoughts? - I'm not sure what else to do. Any thoughts? i would rather get a more clear picture of what is happening before tinkering in my case. Once I get the case open and start messing in there, it is too small and difficult to work in to repeatedly test, and put back, and then disassemble for another trouble shoot. That's the trade off for such a small factor, I understand. Overall its a powerful little beast of a system. Just need to get this sorted and need the wisdom of my peers to do so. Cheers and thank. Is the PC I'm building good? How do I improve it? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:16 AM PST Hi there, I've been planning to upgrade my PC for a while. Here are my current specs list: CPU: i5-10400F Mobo: ASRock Z490 Extreme4 Memory: Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB Pro PC28800 16GB(2x8GB) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA3, Klevv SSD RGB CRAS C700 240GB Case: Prime C-[x] (a local brand) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_ZVXV0Fv1Q PSU: be quiet! Posted: 23 Feb 2021 11:18 AM PST Looking for some advice on memory for a Ryzen 5600X build. I'm trying to go mid-range (but aesthetically pleasing) with this build. Motherboard choice currently is the Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE V2. I was going to stick with 2x8. I'm having a hard time finding decent RGB memory on the QVL list for this board. Silly or not, since this build needs to have some aesthetics, so RGB is highly preferred. If I need to swap motherboard choices, I'm fine with that. Give me your best recommendations.
