Xbox series X will have 4K support and will probably cost 500$, maybe 600$ at most.

If I want to play in 4K on PC, 600$ is not enough.

Why would someone choose to spend 600$ on a PC +a mouse/keyboard instead of saving that 600$ for ps5/Xbox series X?

    Corona price inflation

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:46 AM PDT

Hello! I'm looking to build my first PC this year. I've noticed that the price of most of the parts I've been looking at have jumped up significantly since the world has gone into lockdown. I'd like to build my PC within the next few weeks, but the prices are crazy.

Does anyone know if the prices are likely to fall again this year? I'm not sure if I should wait for prices to fall, or just go ahead and build now. Any advice would be much appreciated!

After over 5 Years of Gaming with a GTX960 I finally have ther courage and money to Upgrade my PC so I can finally not play all the unplayed Games in my Steam Libary with adequate Graphics and FPS.

Budget was around 900€ and altough in the PCPartpicker list it's 1000€ I almost managed to stay under the 900€ because PPP does not always show you the cheapest offers especially in Europe. So I got good deals for some of my Parts (300€ for the 2060 for example)

So anyway here is my list:

u/LonelyGuy9001 made this post on here this morning asking why anyone would purchase a PC when an Xbox has better performance. It was met with very kind and civil responses, and everyone had a genuinely great conversation about the topic.

I posted the same topic to /r/xboxone where it was immediately downvoted and removed by the moderators without explanation. I messaged the moderators asking why my civil post was removed but got no response. Screenshot in case the link doesn't work.

So thank you /r/buildapc for being open and friendly to anyone and everyone.

Edit: Man.. all this has done is made me realize how corrupt/bias the world is lol

Would you change anything in my first PC build?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 07:35 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm building my first PC - a mid-range gaming setup. I've spent quite a while reading up on every single part, and I'm just about ready to purchase. Before I do, though, I'd like some input from experienced PC builders. Note: I live in Denmark, and everything is a bit more expensive than in the US here.

    This is my build:

    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    • MOBO: MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max
    • GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC
    • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB 3600MHz C16
    • SSD: Crucial P1 1TB M.2
    • PSU: Corsair TX650M
    • CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C Mid Tower
    • MONITOR: AOC CQ27G2U 27"

Total sum is 10,944 DKK // 1,590 USD

    What do you guys think?

    Does RAM speed actually matter?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 10:34 AM PDT

Is there any difference in the performance of 2133MHz DDR4 RAM and 4000MHz DDR4 RAM? I know there is some difference with integrated AMD graphics but if we disregard that, is it worth paying extra for faster RAM? The reason why I'm asking is partially that I will be upgrading from 8 GB to 32 GB some time this year. Thanks in advance for your replies! Cheers!

EDIT: I am using an Intel i7 6700k

Someone PLEASE help me lol. No info being sent to monitor whatsoever.

    Posted: 10 May 2020 10:35 AM PDT

I made this post about a week ago, but it got lost in new/ignored. I'm going to keep trying. :'(

Its my first build. Everything is put together. I try to boot it up for the first time. Fans start spinning, lights come on, keyboard lights come on, monitor comes on. Seems okay.

But then, nothing comes up on the monitor. Absolutely nothing. No BIOS screen. Everything's is running, but there's no information being sent to the monitor at all.

Double checked the cables, made sure everything was plugged in to the right stuff. Still nothing.

Then I thought it was a RAM issue. Ordered some replacement RAM that's 100% compatible, but it didn't solve the problem.

Then I tried using a DDI cable instead of a HDMI. Didn't solve anything either.

Then I tried using a different monitor entirely. Still nothing. God help me. :(

I know this is all incredibly vague. I'm completely in the dark too. But any advice would be appreciated. Trust me. I've been trying to fix this issue for over a week. I'm completely and utterly lost.

Also, here's is my build. https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/G4V323/modest-amd-gaming-build

Current driver for Nvidia (no Geforce Experience installed) *still* tries contacting services.gfe.nvidia.com for whatever reason, even on a freshly rebuilt PC..

    Posted: 10 May 2020 11:54 AM PDT

These requests are hitting my router from the LAN side even though I have never installed Geforce Experience on this computer.

My auto-update is off (I don't even have one since Experience is not installed), so which process is making this request and what exactly gives? What's it for? What information does it collect, and is there a way to turn it off at the software level? I have it blocked now on my router with no noticeable difference, but it's still annoying and disconcerting to know that nvidia is phoning home like this, even when all "experience" options have been unchecked.

PC Posts But Can't Install Windows

    EVGA 2070 Super

    EVGA G5 850W

    ASRock x470 Master SLI/ac

    2x8GB G.SKILL Flare X Series

    Samsung 860 EVO 1TB

    (2) Acer 24" XFA240 monitors

    ISSUE:

I plug in USB Windows installer, Bios logo displays, Windows logo/spinning dots show, then monitor loses signal. Computer continues running.

    I DID:

Tested with HP Pavilion 32 inch monitor and different display port cable/hdmi cable.

    Removed CMOS Battery.

Reset Bios settings after changing boot options, etc.

    Secure erased SSD from Bios.

Tried to run Linux Mint from another USB installer, got Hardware Error messages.

Installed GPU & Ram in another system, it worked.

Haven't swapped my PSU, CPU, or MOBO (was trying to avoid this, but am running out of options).

Slowly losing my mind. Any help would be appreciated immensely.

Lighting in my room isn't great. What you dont see is how I scraped the side of the motherboard while inserting and reinserting trying to fit it into the IO shield. Probably the hardest part of the build.

Big thanks to everyone here who helped me with suggestions and advice. I'm really enjoying it so far and it runs everything great. I dont notice a difference at all between the Ryzen and the i5 in my MBP. It's great. Even the case which is "cheaper" is great, I got the acrylic window version which is fine because the only RGB comes from the mobo.

I did end up buying a Noctua CPU cooler because the temps on the stock cooler were just too high for me. I dont think the Ryzen should hit near 80 while playing WoW, even if it was a spike. So far, I love the Noctua, but I would recommend upgrading out of the Wraith cooler sooner. Edit: Didnt notice that PcPartpicker says the Noctua is incompatible with the Cougar case... but it fit fine for me

    Finished a Major PC Upgrade!

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:08 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

In October, 2017 I built a gaming PC using advice from this subreddit. I never posed the pics from that build because I was a little insecure about it and didn't want anyone judging it. Yesterday though, I finished a huge upgrade to my PC, getting a new case, motherboard, CPU, and GPU, again thanks to all the support from this subreddit. After seeing how helpful you all have been again, I'm now confident enough to share the build! I wanted to say thank you to this community, as you guys are really supportive and helpful, albeit sometimes snobs. But hey, I guess that's a byproduct of being part of the "PC master race".
    (Old Vs. New Comparison Pics)

    Old PC:
GPU - ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dual
    CPU - i5 7600k
    MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z270MX - Gaming 5
Case - Apevia X-Sniper2 ATX Mid Tower
    New PC:
GPU - EVGA 2070 Super 8GB XC Ultra Gaming
    CPU - Ryzen 5 3600
    MOBO - Tomahawk B450 Max ATX AM4
Case - Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower

Could you validate my medium-low wannabe budget build? [Only Gaming, No Streaming]

    Posted: 10 May 2020 10:04 AM PDT

    Budget: € 800-900

Hi everyone, I've always wanted to build my own PC so here I am, asking for your tips.

I came up with with my first build which is intended mainly for gaming, overclocking and occasionally programming. I'm not planning start streaming anytime in the future, but you never know. Also I don't care about fancy RGB cool looking stuff.

I deliberately customized the pcpartpicker list because I could not found some parts (SSD, Case and PSU) and in order to show you the prices I could find right now in Italy.

    Type Item Price
    CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor € 165.92 @ HW1.it
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler €39.90 @ Amazon.it
    Motherboard MSI X470 GAMING PLUS MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard € 119.84 @ HW1.it
    Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory € 78.54 @ HW1.it
    Storage Toshiba RD500 M.2 500 GB PCI Express 3.0 BiCS FLASH TLC NVMe SSD € 83.51 @ HW1.it
    Storage Toshiba P300 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive € 50.75 @ HW1.it
Video Card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6 GB MINI ITX OC Video Card € 240.29 @ HW1.it
    Case Noua Cool G3 White Case ATX € 78.49 @ Amazon.it
    Power Supply Gigabyte GP-650B POWER SUPPLY r 650 W ATX € 57.79 @ HW1.it
Monitor HP OMEN 25 24.5" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor Already owned
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
    Shipping € 15
    Total € 926.34

I initially chose the XFX Radeon RX 590 8 GB as Video Card, but it didn't convince me, so I changed it.

Are there any compatibility or powering issues?

Do the overall prices seem ok to you (despite the world lockdown)?

I'd like the build to cost something less, so I was thinking about not buying the HDD storage and the CPU cooler (obviously I would not overclocking in that case) for now, since they are not mandatory, or could I somewhat save something changing any part?

    Thank you all!

[Edit: I put the wrong Video Card, updated from 1600 to 1600 Super]

MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC ATX $190

Just installed Phenom ii x6, will post but won't boot?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:11 PM PDT

Maybe someone can help me here...

I upgraded from a phenom ii x4 965 BE to a phenom ii x6 1100t. I hear a single beep, which should mean everything is fine but it won't boot into windows. I'm stuck with a blinking underscore. I can get into bios. It says "Unknown AMD processor" or something along those lines. And just like the 965, it only registers 800Mhz.

It's an acer motherboard, specially a DA061L-3D, or known by acer as a Aspire X1420G. I have the latest bios drivers from acer. It has American Megatrends Inc. BIOS.

I don't know what could be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Thats too bad, I think Acer didn't release any bios updates to support the cpu. Its risky, but would it be conceivable to flash a different bios??

    Monitor advice needed

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:09 PM PDT

    Hi!

I've just built a brand new PC meant for high FPS 1080p gaming however now i need a new monitor for it, since my 13 year old 1440x900 LG one is obviously not cutting it.

For about the same price I could get the 23.8" 144Hz panel or the 27" 75Hz panel, so witch one should i get? I've heard that 144Hz is buttery smooth however i do like big screens, and I'm not really sure what to prefer in this case, so i thought you guys might help. Thanks!

Good monitor(s) or not worth it?

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:08 PM PDT

I was looking at some 1440p 144hz monitors to get one for when I build my new PC, I was wondering if either of these two are worth it? They're on sale for quite a bit and I know "Amazon's Choice" shit can be really bad sometimes so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these? Or any recommendations?

    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270HU-Cbmiiprx-FreeSync-Monitor/dp/B07YGY3RMQ/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=1440p+144hz+monitor&qid=1589143329&sr=8-3

Also, as you can see, one of them is 31.5 inches and curved, compared to 27 flat, for only 20 dollars more. This seems like too good to be true to me? Is it worth it? Do you prefer curved or straight? I've never used curved before but I think I would like it, it's just that 280 bucks is a lot to dive on something that I'm not 100% sure about you know? Thank you in advance guys, I hope this post isn't breaking any rules or anything, I just want to make sure I'm making a good decision before dropping a bunch of money.

Help - First PC Build Components and Questions

    Posted: 10 May 2020 02:01 PM PDT

I am a researcher who will be using this PC for Microsoft office, statistics software, some video and photo editing (Adobe), and potentially light gaming. My budget is ~$1500 CAD, but I am flexible if there is good reason.

I am looking to build a PC in a Fractal Meshify C case (https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_1937&item_id=119755) since I have heard Fractal's airflow is unrivaled. But, I am also open to other case suggestions that are of a similar size and quality.

My boyfriend is willing to give me old his SSD (120 Gb) and GPU (GTX 1060). My first question is whether it is wise to take old parts from his previous build or if I should start completely from scratch (due to obsolescence or other factors)?

What CPU do you recommend? I have been looking at the Intel i7 9700k, but again, I would love to hear opinions.

From my calculations, I think I will need a ~400W PSU. Is there any benefit to getting 500 or 600W+? Which brand/product is the most reliable?

How much RAM do you recommend? What motherboard do you recommend? I am ideally looking for something with a built in wifi card and bluetooth.

TLDR: I am a noob, show me your build recommendations!
