Help! My recently built PC now displays no signal to monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 07:20 AM PDT

I recently built a gaming pc 9 days ago with these components: -Ryzen 5 3600 -Powercolor RX 5700 -Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro WiFi -Crucial 1TB NVme m.2 ssd -550 Watt Powerspec PSU -Corsair Vengeance RGB ram My system is currently operating on windows 10. Two days ago I was doing some gaming when my screen froze. I then manually turned off the PC, and now whenever I turn it on, the lights and the fans turn on, but their is no signal to the monitor or the mouse and keyboard. I tried switching the monitor so I know it's my PC, and I've also tried removing both the ram and the GPU and putting them back in and nothing works. I would really appreciate someone's help right now please!

After feedback from another post I made, I replaced my PSU with another unit, specifically a evga 80 plus bronze 600 watt psu and yet my system STILL doesn't work. Please, if anyone knows the solution please tell me.

Edit: Thanks for all your help guys, because my mouse and keyboard work without the gpu, it has lead me to Believe that it is the problem. I'll update once I buy and replace the gpu.

    Better Internet for my PC?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 01:24 PM PDT

My PC is on the other side of the house from my router so unfortunately the speed is a bit slow. However, I do have one of these outlets in my room:

I tried plugging in my ethernet directly to the second hole but I don't think that worked. Does anyone know what I can do to make my internet better?

Where does all the noise come from in a PC?? (Other than case fans)

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:40 AM PDT

I'm sure this has been asked before, but since it varies on a case by case basis, I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere. People mostly just say it's the case fans and you need to buy quieter fans.

I always thought the noise was primarily caused by my fans too. I have 6 case fans (2x360mm rad custom loop, no CPU blower) and I run them at 9% speed and its overall pretty quiet. Well today I decided to turn the fans off altogether and to my suprise, i noticed the noise level was basically the same as with my fans on low speed.

The obvious other sources are my power supply (EVGA supernova 750 G2) and hard drive (WD blue 2tb). I can't imagine my hard drive makes that much noise other than those occasional mechanical read write sounds that I hear. Are there any other key sources I might be missing?

    i5 9400f or Ryzen 5 (1600 or 2600)

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 06:36 AM PDT

I have a gtx 1050 ti from msi and an old i5 3470 that is slowing down PC while playing because of the low core and thread count (i think).

Therefor I'm planning to upgrade my CPU to something new, so would you recommend an i5 9400f or a Ryzen 5 (could be 1600 or 2600).

I'm leaning more towards Ryzen because they offer more for less money, but I've heard that they have insane overheating problems where the temp of the CPU rises so much. Would this be a problem?

Anyways after I'll pick the perfect CPU ill also need a new motherboard to support it (mine's really old), so what would you recommend (something cheap)

Need help understanding WiFi / Bluetooth PCIe card

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 02:06 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have a MSI b450 tomahawk motherboard that doesn't have any Wifi/BT capability on it. I wanted BT to use my wireless headsets and for Zwift on the computer. I have a Technicolor modem and Asus router that was connected to the computer for internet via Ethernet cable, and the router gives off 2.4/5gh signals for Wifi for the rest of our devices.

I decided to get an MSI Wi-Fi 6 PCIe AX916C card and installed it in my computer today. The BT functionality works, I am hardwired directly from the modem to the computer and I am getting internet fine. I removed the router from the equation because I was thinking the wifi card would broadcast a 2.4/5gh network that I can use for my devices instead. This way i can eliminate one piece of clutter.

I cannot for the life of me get the Wi-Fi to work. I can't see any networks that it is broadcasting, I don't even know what the network name is called. In network connections I see Wi-Fi Not Connected, Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz. THere are full green bars but a red x.

Am I misunderstanding what this card does? Does it not broadcast a wifi signal that I can connect to with my other devices, or am I doing something wrong? Do I need to have the ASUS router in the system for wifi?

    Thanks

What would be a good GPU Upgrade from a 1070?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 01:26 AM PDT

I've used a benchmark comparison and I'm not sure what the best bang for my buck upgrade would be from a 1070. I know the 3000 series may be coming out sometime this year, however, I've heard it'll be in the $2000 range (out of budget). So I'd rather get a GPU sometime soon.

    Possible options:

    RTX 2070S RTX 2080 GTX 1080 ti

I'd love to get this communities opinions though, most of you probably have some kind of first hand experience. Thank you if you reply c:

Upgrading my mom's system from an Xeon E3-1231 for AutoCAD and Revit

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 08:52 AM PDT

    Hello,

As the title suggests my mom currently has a PC that I built for her years ago with an Intel Xeon E3-1231. It's been a little over four years since then and I think it's finally time to upgrade her CPU since the work she's doing is CPU intensive. What would be the proper upgrade path? I'm assuming a Ryzen 5 3600 is the way to go?

Hey a few little questions to the more savvy ones than me :)

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 07:14 AM PDT

    Hi guys

A few questions hopefully some kind soul can answer ( I hope this isn't build-spoonfeeding, since it's kind of a discussion on what to upgrade more than just "I have 2k, what should I do?", if it breaks this rule, I apologize and please remove)

So my motherboard is a P8P67 LE. My whole build is ages old, and a little upgraded over the years.

The thing is I just recently realized that my CPU temp is running hot hot. Probably causing something called a heat throttle. currently its at 90+ C, which sucks. The CPU is an i7 2600 3.4ghz. Just for info.

The reason why it is overheating is probably due to the fact that I haven't applied thermal paste ever. And it's been 14+ years. And my CPU fan hold down pin broke (1 of 3) while cleaning the whole thing for dust. I managed to get it into place and managed to get my PC to boot without any overheating. But it is still not managing to cool it off under 90 while the CPU is in use.

I was looking to upgrade my build anyways so maybe this is a good time to start.

    So these are my questions:

    - Does the motherboard I have (with Intel P67 Express/P67_Express.html) chipset) support any better processors than I currently have? I found this website, indicating that it does, but I'd like to confirm before spending some hard to come by money on a processor I can't use..

    - Another thing I'd like to confirm is if my processor is a bottleneck at all. Or will it be if I upgrade?

These are the things I think I should upgrade:
    - My gtx 960 with 2gb GPU mem. (this one I think suffers from the 2gb memory but I don't really know, I don't game really intense graphic games on ultra, i'm more of a competitive gamer and as long as I get 150fps on low settings I used to be happy, but maybe I'd like to be able to crank up the texture quality) so I think this one has to go :)

    - I have 8gb of DDR3 Ram Dual channel, 4x2 gb Speed: 1333 Mhz, Form factor: DIMM (if this makes sense)? I'd love to upgrade my ram, but I need advice on which is best for the motherboard I have. My goal would be around 16gb? or maybe just better speed or ddr4? I don't know, but I think the ram is a bottleneck :)

    - I'd also like to upgrade the CPU in case it is a bottleneck. What do you say?

and lastly I'd buy myself new hold down pins for my cpu fan (since I broke half of a pin). I think the fan is fine, rather the paste is what is missing. What do you think about that? Anything else you could add?

    I appreciate your time greatly.

Is this (partial) upgrade a good idea?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:04 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I am looking to upgrade my pc. This is my current one https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vY6JHN . I am looking to get a new CPU, the Ryzen 7 3700x in particular. My plan is to upgrade the CPU, RAM and Motherboard, and then get a new GPU at a later date.

I am using this computer for gaming 1080p @144hz. I might get a 1440p @144hz monitor later but not now.

Do I need a new power supply? The website does not show me any issues, should I keep my current one.

This is the new one https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mNfPYH

When new money comes in, I am thinking of getting a 2070 Super. Is this overkill for 1080p @144hz?

    Thank you very much!

    Edit:

I changed the Motherboard to the Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE ATX AM4 Motherboard. New list https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mkVwjp

Workstation for sound production/programming/some DL/possible streaming

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 09:50 AM PDT

Hi folks, I am planning to use this machine for Ableton Live and programming. I also think to use it for prototyping DL models/large-scale optimization algorithms, so I am looking for a decent GPU. However, I am not planning to use it as a main machine for training and instead just use it as a prototyping tool so that I can deploy those models to a remote server. I am currently looking into streaming (not-so-taxing) videogames such as Magic: the Gathering Arena, etc.
