    Ryzen 1600 VS 2600

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:24 AM PDT

Looking to dip my toes back into pc gaming and considering what parts would fit. How much of an upgrade would a 2600 be compared to a 1600?

Planning to buy as many parts used as possible to keep costs low. Would be pairing with an older model graphics card, rx 580 or 10 series from Nvidia most likely.

My dad was a pilot in the Vietnam War. He wants to build a flight simulator, and I need help

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:39 AM PDT

My dad is a 72 year old Vietnam vet. He recently sold his lakehouse since he can't care for it well with his age. He wants to use some of that money to build a flight simulator.

I custom built my gaming PC last year so I know some but not an expert. I want to make sure whatever PC can support all kinds of peripherals for an authentic experience. Doesn't need to provide motion but he does want to support three monitors or one huge monitor to play the new Flight Simulator 2020 that is coming out this year (or any other good software).

He doesn't care about tower appearance he just cares about functionality. Any help or suggestions here?

    First AMD Mid-Level build

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 04:16 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

i mainly use my pc for gaming and work; i am a full-stack developer working with windows sub systems and docker for windows and therefore needing some ram. My current build is already some years old and i'd like to upgrade but i am not sure which parts to keep for a rewarding new build.

Currently my setup looks as follow:

    cpu: intel i7 4790

    graphic-card: amd sapphire R9 290 TRI - XH

    motherboard: asus H97 - Pro S115

    power-supply: be quiet 650W power zone 80

case: corsair midi spec 03 white LED

cpu-cooler: be quiet Dark rock 3

    ram: corsair D3 16GB 1600 - 10 Vengeance

drives: samsung ssd 840 EVO 1TB, samsung ssd 860 EVO 1TB

As you can see, it has already some years on its back and i'd like to do a full upgrade as follows:

    cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

graphic-card: MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT

motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4

    power-supply: Corsair RM (2019) 750 W 80+ Gold

case: Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case

cpu-cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler

    ram: G.Skill Trident Z Royal 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory

drives: samsung ssd 840 EVO 1TB, samsung ssd 860 EVO 1TB

So the oly thing i'd keep are my drives because i am very happy with them. Would you recommend this build at all? Are there some parts where any of you would've a better suggestion?

One problem i have with my current system is that the fans get very loud and i cannot figure out why. The temperature on my main parts (cpu - ~53°C, motherboard ~40°C, graphic card ~55°C is actually quite okay - this all is measured in idle mode). If turning the fans down, the heat will rise a little but not significantly risky. So this is one reason i'd like to upgrade but the main reason is that i just want to do something new :)

Why is my CPU clock speed so high when I’m doing nothing? (AMD Ryzen 5 3600)

Would my current PSU be sufficient? (RX 5700 XT, R5 3600)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 04:50 AM PDT

I'm upgrading my PC, however I'm planning on keeping my current PSU. But there is a slight doubt that it might be insufficient. I would like to know your thoughts on wether it would be sufficient.

    The PC-Build:

    CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (Boxed - New)

    MB: Asus Prime B450M-A (New)

GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT PULSE (New)

    RAM: Crucial CT2K8G4DFS832A 2x 8GB 3200 MHz (New)

SSD: Crucial BX200 240 GB (Bought in 2016)

    Crucial MX500 1TB (New)

HDD: Seagate ST1000DM003 (Bought in 2016)

PSU: Cooler Master G550M 550W 80-plus Bronze (Bought in 2016)

I think the RX 5700 XT recommends a 600/650 Watt PSU, meanwhile answers online seem to vary, saying a 550W (even 500W in some cases) will be enough. So at this point I am not really sure about this. Ideally I would like to keep the current PSU, without having to worry about it potentially breaking any other components. Your thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.

Also, if there are any possible (compatibility) issues or any other advice regarding this setup, please let me know. Thanks!

Edit: A big thanks to all the people from r/Amd, r/buildapc & r/PcBuild, who have provided me with more knowledge (and calculations) about this topic. A lot of my uncertainty has been taken away. I will stick with this PSU and might look into undervolting to be safer :)

It's time to upgrade...looking for suggestions

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:52 PM PDT

    Hi All,

When my build started in 2013, it was fresh, fun, and super functional.

Over the years I've upgrades various components...and I'm at the point where I think I scrap and sell, or upgrade a few components still.

    1. I have a good job and not worried about spending money on this build. I'd like to keep it around or below $1,500 though.
    2. I have various components that can be used to achieve that price point. I just need help determining...sell my PC as used and do a fresh build, or try to upgrade...?

    Goals:

    1. I need to clean up. I'm basically living in the same "world" of my PC and gaming rigs since I was a poor college kid. Now I've been employed for 5 years and I need a fresh go. No More stuttering and tweaking, and no more using old TVs as a monitor, and 12 year old speakers that half work...
    2. I want a sleek gaming and jamming space (play guitar / record easily using my focus-rite). I'm painting and adding shelves, need cable management cleanup, a better case, etc.

    Current build:

    Mobo : Z97 Gaming 5

    CPU : I-7 4790k

RAM: DRR 3, 8 GB single channel ram

GPU : NVidia GTX 970Monitors: Acer G257 HU, 25 inch widescreen monitor + Shitted 32 inch TV Screen JVC (Need something to pair with the acer)

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QS0AKVK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Speakers: Logitech X530's

Case: Raidmax, very old, falling apart. Need a new one.

    PSU : 750Watt

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017HA3RGE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hard Drive: Samsung SSD EVO 1tb.

Salvage / sell off parts, sell as used and rebuild, or upgrade?? I can't decide...!

    My must upgrades:

    1. I want 2 monitors, and need to trash my 32 inch tv acting as my monitor. Probably go with ultra wide to pair with my acer? Any suggestions?
    2. Speakers : I'm in a new space and need to get a cleaner setup + keep the sound quality for playing music / jamming with my guitar. Wired surround sound seems impossible with my setup now, so looking for suggestions. There's so much out there but I don't know what's good...
    3. Case is garbage. Need to upgrade for aesthetics and air flow. It's falling apart.

    Won't upgrade:

    1. SDD and PSU are < 6 months old, were needed. Would only get rid if if I try to sell PC as used.

    Unsure

    1. Do I upgrade just my GPU? or my CPU/MOBO/GPU? I want to get a wireless card, a better sound card for the music side of things, but my MOBO is too small for both of those things.
    2. RAM seems like a no brainer, but only can get DDR3 with my mobo, so makes me think I need a new mobo, which makes me think I need to do the CPU/Mobo/GPU/RAM upgrade.

I feel like the biggest upgrade would be a GPU and speakers and monitor. CPU means new motherboard, which means just sell off my mobo/cpu/GPU or sell the whole thing used and start from scratch?

Any suggestions? Once I get a path I'm fine doing my own shopping but...having trouble knowing if I should just buy a good GPU/Case/Monitor/Speakers, or Do the whole shebang...

Cpu running at 6.8 GHZ while only overclocked to 4.0

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:19 PM PDT

I overclocked my cpu (water cooled) from 3.6 to 4.0 ghz, but according to task manager the base freq is 5.6 now, and i saw the current freq spike to 6.8 ghz. Is that bad?

According to MSI afterburnet it is at a constant 4000 mhz/4.0 ghz

I'm new and I have some questions.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:34 PM PDT

Alright, so I'm 15 and I've always wanted to build a PC. My dad said over the summer, we can build one. But before I build one, I need to know every part I need to build said computer. I watch some Youtubers such as LinusTechTips, Bitwit, Austin, etc, however they don't always name every part that you need. If anyone can give recommendations towards a budget PC as well, it'd be very helpful!

Upgrading GPU and maybe other components?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:30 PM PDT

I built my desktop in early 2015, and with a lot of games coming out this year I think it's time that I make some upgrades. My build consists of:

    • Intel i5 4690k w/ Cooler Master Hyper 212
    • MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150
    • Kingston HyperX Fury 2x4 GB RAM (DDR3-1866)
    • MSI Radeon R9 380 4GB
    • EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650 W Power Supply

I haven't kept up much with hardware since completing my build, so I have a bunch of questions about my upgrade options. Using PC Part Picker and UserBenchMark it would seem that my upgrade options are very limited in terms of RAM and CPU because of my motherboard, and it's definitely time to upgrade my GPU and switch from HDD to SSD. What GPUs should I consider? For future-proofing is it worth it to pay $300 dollars for an RTX 2060? Is it worth it to upgrade my RAM and CPU, and do I need to switch motherboards to do so?

Thanks for any advice and input!

New GPU (5600 XT), Black screen and monitor detection problems?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 02:36 PM PDT

I recently upgraded my RX 570 to a Gigabyte Radeon 5600 XT. I downloaded the driver Radeon 20.3.1 but now whenever I start my PC or try to wake it up after sleeping, the monitor fails to detect anything from the PC. I have to restart my computer like 2-4 times until I can reach the Windows log-in screen. It's obviously on and the keyboard and mouse light up in recognition.

Idk if this is the blackscreen problem from recent AMD drivers that they claimed to have fixed or if this is something else entirely. All help or suggestions appreciated.

    First build - anything egregious?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:47 PM PDT

First build, primary use for gaming, budget about $1500. Mainly I just wanted to check that there's nothing egregiously bad about the build - parts that aren't compatible, huge difference in quality of parts, whatever. Otherwise, any sort of feedback or suggestions are welcome as well. Thanks!

Should I risk frying my CPU?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:46 PM PDT

Hey all, I already built my pc but have recently bought a new part. The main issue is that by upgrading my wifi card I now can add Bluetooth. However it requires one of my USB 2 connector spaces. Both of them are currently being used by my NZXT Kraken X62 as well as an NZXT lighting and fan configuration that came with the case (NZXT h500i). I'm at a crossroads in terms of wanting the Bluetooth feature and leaving both of them plugged in. I tried to see if the pc would work by unplugging either one of them. When unplugging the case connector all of the case fans stopped working. However when taking out the plug for the AOI cpu cooler I saw no difference other than the LED not working. Bluetooth would be great but would it cause the pump of the AOI to not work and thus frying my CPU. I'm torn and not sure what to due. Just for reference I have an ASUS Prime X470 pro motherboard.
