Should Microsoft require SSD boot drives for Windows 11? Posted: 11 Aug 2021 07:44 AM PDT It seems like every Windows PC I've seen with Windows 10 installed to a magnetic disc has been a miserable user experience, hitting the drive 100% almost constantly, with frequent stuttering and freezing. Even accounting for the cost savings of magnetic discs for storage, I feel like a 256GB SSD for the boot drive and a 1TB HDD is just a better option all around? [link] [comments] |

A very brief overview of Mac and Windows PC specs over the past year on Steam. Posted: 12 Aug 2021 12:35 AM PDT I've felt that while the Steam Hardware and Software Survey is useful, the month to month aspect doesn't properly show longer periods, that could let us see what PCs or Macs are being bought and sold, and how hardware changes over time. So, I've been spending a decent bit of time compiling and figuring out various entries, putting them together and trying to make sense of them. This is a very short snippet, but covers all the major categories, and should provide an overview of whats risen and fallen in 6 month shots. I've left out VRAM because while the Windows side is accurate, the Mac side varies dramatically from 0 MB, to 24 MB, to various other numbers. For Windows graphics cards, I stuck with the standard 'Video Card Description (Windows)'. [link] [comments] |
