Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:13 PM PDT Firstly, I wanted to say thank you all so, so much for your help! I'll admit I was super nervous and overwhelmed the first time I posted, but with your kind comments and my own research (plus the gem which is PCPartpicker) I feel happy I've gotten him everything he needs! Like I said in my original post, he's never built a PC before and has always wanted to, so this is all new. Plus he has the day off work tomorrow so he'll actually get the whole day to work on it. It's the eve of his birthday and I've banished him from our living room as he knows I'm setting up a surprise (but he doesn't know what). When lockdown started, he didn't have a desk to do WFH so I painted his old one and reassembled it whilst he was away for a few days (he thought it was a sweet gesture and has no idea I did it because he needs space for all of this!) Ok ok I've rambled on enough! Here are the specs + peripherals (I don't know if I'm writing these out correctly. Hope it's ok!) Case: Cougar MX330 Mid tower Gaming Case, Clear Side Panel. Power Supply: Corsair CXM (2015) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply Storage: Kingston SSD A400 Solid State Drive 2.5-inch SATA 3 - 480 GB CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Processor (6C/12T, 35 MB Cache, 4.2 GHz Max Boost) Memory: Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory Graphics Card: MSI Radeon RX 570 ARMOR 8GB Graphics Card Motherboard: MSI B450M-A PRO MAX AMD Socket AM4 Motherboard Peripherals: Monitor (x2): LENOVO - G24-10 Full HD 23.6" LED Gaming Monitor – Black Keyboard: PICTEK Ultra-Slim All-Metal Panel Wired USB Gaming Keyboard with Bright Rainbow Backlight and Glow Keys OS: Windows 10 Home USB Wifi Chip: Ziyituod WiFi 6 AX200 Bluetooth5.1 PCIe WiFi Card (Plus anti static wrist bands and stuff haha) I...may have gone a SMIDGE over budget and I'm not drowning in £££ (I'm a Teacher lol) but I've been saving up for this a long time and honestly, with the virus and stuff, I felt like I should go all in as much as possible! I really hope he likes it! I'M SO FREAKING NERVOUS YOU GUYS!!!! Ok! Once again thank you all! I'm so grateful that I found such a wonderful, kind and welcoming community to help me with this. You all rock! [link] [comments]
To the people who aren't sure getting an SSD is worth the money. Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:23 PM PDT I just upgraded my PC from a 2tb hard drive and added a 500gb SSD, to say that it's faster just wouldn't be right. My boot time went from like 3 minutes from power off to having steam open to around 20 seconds as well as just having no waiting times in file explorer and opening applications extremely fast. I can effortlessly say that buying an SSD is probably one of my most appreciated parts on my rig. [link] [comments]
Should I Be worried about building a PC? (SUPER beginner) Posted: 10 Sep 2020 05:11 AM PDT I know a bit about specs and computer parts and stuff like that, but I'm worried that I will mess up the build, or apply too much/little thermal paste, etc. Is there any important information that I should know before setting up my PC? (BTW it's a PC with decent to good specs. GPU will be Nvidia RTX 3080 Whenever that's out and the CPU will be AMD Ryzen 3900X. Yes I Purchased a X570 mother board. Also is a 1000 Watt PSU overkill for a setup with a 3080? Thank you and goodbye.) [link] [comments]
Want to surprise my husband, how is this? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:33 AM PDT I think his video card is still fine since he doesn't do too much gaming... so we won't upgrade that now. How is this?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:19 AM PDT My son will be building the PC Part Picker entry level AMD or Intel build. This is a Christmas present and I have no idea what I'm doing. https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/zTgXsY/entry-level-amd-gaming-build https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/BnBD4D/entry-level-intel-gaming-build I have 3 questions

Sprayed petroleum gas on motherboard Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:15 AM PDT Ugh I used the wrong air duster spray and sprayed my motherboard with it. Wtf do I do now (first time doing dumb shit like that) Edit: For those wondering, it was an air duster for electronics. Or at least that was what it was called. The catch was you can only clean the outside cases of electronics. As soon as I sprayed and saw a bright white color I stopped (I first tried spraying in the air to test it out and it was colorless, completely transparent) I was told to just let it dry out, cleaned it with a brush now I'm letting it sit for the night and will assemble the PC tomorrow. Stay tuned, will update yall fire or not [link] [comments]
>$4000 budget build for running multiple instances of the same game/ultrawide 1440p Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:28 AM PDT Hey there, I'm planning a build for the upcoming 3090 and Zen 3 stuff (whatever replaces the 3950X). My use case is twofold: During downtime I want to run multiple instances of the same game at the same time. Right now I run up to 9 instances of a game and clock in at around 7~8 GB VRAM and around 25 GB RAM. I don't care about the FPS (it's at ~10 in each instance). Hopefully with the upcoming generation I can run 20 instances. When I'm using the PC actively and not working I just want to be able to play games smoothly at ultrawide 1440p at 90+ fps. This is my build:

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 03:57 AM PDT Like, if I was looking at a graphics card to buy off Amazon, one review might say "This card works beautifully!" and then the next review would be a one start and say "Turned on my PC for the first time and the thing caught fire". [Build Help] For my 12 year old son, Budget 1500 USD Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:20 AM PDT Build Help/Ready:What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. A gaming PC for my 12 year old son who likes to play FPS games. **If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? Looking for a 1440p with at least 60 FPS. If we can get higher FPS, better. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? 1500 USD but would like this to include Monitor and Keyboard. Monitor preferably 27". In what country are you purchasing your parts? United States. Provide any additional details you wish below. We have game pass ultimate so I would like for my son to be able to play released games at higher settings and newer games medium to high settings. Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:15 AM PDT Is it best to hold off on building a new PC until after these release on October 8th? I had been looking at a Ryzen 7 3700X, but with these new releases: 1. Will they cause a significant drop in price for the 3000 processors? 2. Is it worth trying to get a Zen 3 instead, or will they be difficult to get at release? RTX 3070 / 3080: Upgrade without new build? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:45 AM PDT Short story - currently have a 1070 card (4 years old) and built the rest of the PC 3 years ago. I'm hoping to just upgrade the video card for now and do a new build in a couple years. Current components: i7-7700K, ASUS PRIME Z270-A, 32 GB DDR4 3200, NVME SSD, 750W power. Also have a 3 yr old 1440p 27" gsync 144hz IPS panel i spent too much money on that i don't want to ditch yet. I understand the screen will bottleneck me to 1440p but any other concerns/bottlenecks with going with a 3070 or 3080 at this time with my components? Help with a 1060 build in 2020 Posted: 09 Sep 2020 08:24 PM PDT Backstory: my friend found a GTX 1060 unopened at his grandparents house because their credit card number was stolen and a 1060 was ordered but the theif forgot change the shipping destination. So now his grandparents had this for like 2 years and when he asked about it they gave it to him. He's now decided to build a PC but doesn't know if he should sell it or keep it and build from it. It's his first PC and he wants to game at 1080p probably. He also wants to know what parts he should pair with it if he was to keep it. [link] [comments]
Anything I need to specifically do before changing GPUs? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:29 AM PDT So for the first time i'm gonna be swapping GPUs, I'll be selling my 2080s and picking up a 3080. Is there anything I need to do driver/software wise before I change them? Ill be selling the 2080s tomorrow. Aside from swapping my GPU to the Intel HD in my bios so I can still use my PC in the meantime, is there anything I need to do? I think I heard something about installing drivers? I know to obviously turn everything off, unscrew it, remove from the PCIE and whatnot. But is there anything I need to do drivers wise? Im completely clueless on that side of things. First time builder, would an RTX 3070 cause any issues? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:33 AM PDT Been looking to upgrade my current PC for a while now because it struggles a lot with VR, and I thought I'd try my hand at doing a full build myself. Saw that the new 3070 will be coming out soon, so I tried to work out a build that can take advantage of it, but I don't really know what I'm doing so I ended up just copying most of it off Logical Increments. If anyone has advice / suggestions on the build, they'd be much appreciated. GPU is obviously left open in the part list for the eventual 3070

Should I grab a brand new RTX 2080 super for $500? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 05:08 AM PDT So Asus is having a huge sale in my country with 2080 supers going as low as $500 brand new. No pricing on the 3070 yet but I suspect it's going to retail for about $600+ with additional taxes here in the Philippines. Should I grab the 2080 super or wait for the 3070? Opinions On CoolerMaster MasterLiquid ML240L RGB V2 Posted: 10 Sep 2020 11:12 AM PDT I'm looking at this liquid cooler right here to help cool my Ryzen 3700x which I plan to overclock. https://www.amazon.ca/CoolerMaster-MasterLiquid-Close-Loop-Cooler-SickleFlow/dp/B086BYYFG5/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 Is this a good cooler for the job? Or is there something else you guys would recommend, I'm open to both a CPU fan or a liquid cooler. Thanks! [link] [comments]
My Graphics Card doesn’t fit into my case Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:10 AM PDT Basically the title, my graphics card (Radeon RX Vega 56) has metal prongs (what I assume to be a heat sink) that protrude outwards in a way that prevents it from fitting correctly. See Imgur link [link] [comments]
ASRock DeskmMini A300 Ryzen 5 3400G Multimedia PC Posted: 10 Sep 2020 03:30 AM PDT Hello Reddit-Community, I want to build a compact multimedia PC for 4k 60Hz youtube/netflix streaming on my 4k TV. It's not intended to play anything on this PC, even it has an Vega 11 iGPU. Just browsing and multimedia. My current components are:
Is this configuration to expensive/cheap, overpowered/underpowered, whatever, to use it as an multimedia PC? What would you say? And sorry for that noob-question, but do I need any special HDMI-cable to actually can have the full experience? Thank you very in advance! Building a PC for 1440p 144hz with RTX 3000 Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:12 AM PDT Hello! I'm looking to build a desktop soon to comfortably play in 1440p 144hz for at least 2-4 years. I am upgrading from a 1070/i7 laptop connected to a 1080/144 IPS monitor. I have a KB+M setup and I'll be transferring my Sabrent Rocket 1TB SSD. I am also not interested in overclocking. PCpartpicker list link: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nbNJsk As for the monitor I will probably go with LG 27GL850. Ultrawides seem great, but good panels that are not VA plagued with ghosting and smearing are too expensive. Can't decide between 3070 or 3080 - I won't be going 4k so theoretically 3070 seems like a better option and I could always upgrade to a 3080ti later. Looking for some help with selection, not sure if I'm missing something (maybe WIFI) or if this build is balanced. I had some experience with PCs before, but I will properly build a desktop from scratch for the first time :) Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Silly question, but can I wear latex gloves while building my PC? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:45 PM PDT So i got all my parts, and im ready to build my first PC! However, my hands sweat, A LOT. I was wondering if it was recommended to wear latex gloves to build if this is the case. or is latex bad for wearing while building? any other solutions? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:45 AM PDT Hey guys! So I'll be building my first pc next month probably and I've decided to go for the 1660 super as it fits my needs. My question is out of these four options which one is better? Are there any differences? I haven't found much online apart that some have 3x DP and others only one. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? • Asus GTX 1660 super dual evo oc • MSI Ventus XS OC •EVGA GTX 1660 super SC Ultra Gaming •Gigabyte GTX 1660 super oc All of them are on the same price point so money is not a deciding factor there. When I finally can buy all parts I'll make another post to make sure everything is fine, thanks! [link] [comments]
Anything to worry about in cloning -or migrating an OS from- an HDD to an M.2 NVMe? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:40 PM PDT Where the motherboard and all other components have not changed, would there be any issues with cloning my existing windows 10 harddrive/migrating the OS from an old HDD to an NVMe using EaseUS Partition Master? I know that fresh install is recommended for hardware change, but I just want to finally be rid of using HDD (never touched an SSD or later storage solutions until now).
