    Case

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 12:31 AM PST

So I've recently come across this picture with 6 GPUs in one case. I'm not sure if the picture is photoshopped, but I wanted to know if anyone knew the case if the picture is legit. Here is the image: https://m.imgur.com/V9UBbJX Thanks!

How come Apple doesn't have stock issues?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 09:06 AM PST

Seems like every big hardware release these past couple of months has been dealing with stock issues. How come Apple seems to be unaffected by these while sharing suppliers with other companies that have those issues? Are they just better a estimating the demand? From small volume products to big volume products it seems like they just have no issue at all keeping with demand. Why can't other companies do the same?

Why average FPS across multiple games is an inherently inaccurate way of comparing the performance of hardware

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:19 PM PST

Here's some made-up data overexaggerated to show the difference.

    GPU 1 GPU 2
    Game A FPS 240 120
    Game B FPS 60 160
    Average FPS of A and B 150 140
    Average FPS of A and B relative to GPU 1 100% 93.33%
    Game A FPS relative to GPU 1 100% 50.00%
    Game B FPS relative to GPU 1 100% 266.67%
Average of Game A FPS relative to GPU 1 and Game B FPS relative to GPU 1 100% 158.33%

As you can see, GPU 1 is twice as fast as GPU 2 in Game A, but GPU 2 is more than twice as fast as GPU 1 in Game B. This should result with GPU 2 being faster overall.

However, averaging raw FPS numbers does not result in the same conclusion, as the inherently larger numbers in Game A ended up weighing more than the smaller numbers in Game B.

If we convert the performance in each game of both GPUs into ratios relative to GPU 1 (or really any GPU being tested in this case) (like I did in the last 3 rows) and then take the average of the ratios, we end up with the correct conclusion.
